Corporate Worship Values at BBC

  1. 10 Values
    1. God Centeredness
    2. Cross Centered
    3. Expecting the powerful presence of God
      1. Have spontaneous times of prayer and praise. It is more irresponsible to leave time unplanned. Ready to pray, preach, sing or die at a moments notice.
    4. Bible based and Bible saturated
    5. Stimulate both the Head and the Heart
      1. combining these is the best way to go. Developing a passion.
    6. Demonstrate both Earnestness and Intensity (“Sorrowful, yet ever rejoicing”)
      1. God is good, and life is hard.
      2. Maintain intensity: there is a weight to it all.
    7. Use Authentic Communication
      1. Not a stage presence voice, he never talks like that till he gets on stage... all of that kinda stuff.
      2. We’re not perfect, we’re imperfect like everyone else and they want to contribute to being authentic.
    8. Maintaining both the Manifestation of God and the common good
      1. Transcendence and Immanence: congregation meeting God and coming together in our worship. Is there a place for one-another communication? or is it supposed to be vertical? Combination of both.
    9. Un-distracting excellence
      1. We want to do well. Worship in heart, soul and mind. If it is soo good, then it can be distracting in its excellence. We can also have poor quality that is distracting.
      2. What is desired in un-distracting excellence.
      3. Younger leaders: maturity, spiritual maturity, leadership call. Higher quality of worship for larger churches, smaller church you can have younger worship leaders to build them up.
    10. Mingling historic and contemporary expressions of faith.
      1. Don’t do the contemporary and then the traditional services. Both hold high value.
  2. Corporate Worship- the Process
    1. Planning thematic Worship
      1. Of the three common models used in Western cultures today - liturgical, thematic and experiential we have chosen to work with the thematic model.
        1. Liturgical: most main-line denominations: need a hymn here: put a hymn, need a prayer here... and so on.
        2. Thematic: everything flows out of that theme for that day. New each week cuz the theme changes.
          1. Evangelical Conservative denominations will go this route. Baptist, EV free churches and such. Can be series, seasonal...
        3. Experiential: charismatic tradition.
          1. allow Spirit to guide us. Not prescribed.
      2. Sermon Text
      3. Biblical Model Is. 6 and Psalm 95.
      4. Historical Model:
        1. Gathering, Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Word, Response, and benediction.
        2. Each piece has a function and it leads us to God each week.
        3. Reformation is when this started to be in place. The difference was in the emphasis on either the table or the Word.
      5. HANDOUT
  3. The Process
    1. Planning Thematic Worship
    2. Worship Center
      1. Song list... what songs do we sing at this church.
      2. Want to understand people’s songs. What do they know?
      3. How do they pray? How do they communicate?
      4. scary would be talking to people who you know nothing about.
    3. Contextualizing with old and new expressions of musical worship
    4. Rhythm and flow of worship: Dialogical-Declare and Respond
    5. Worship planning leadership
    6. Worship Resources
      1. music and prayers, what do i have to work with???
      2. Recruit and assemble a worship team
        1. Teach the team about worship
        2. disciple them spiritually and musically
      3. Songs
        1. vehicles of theology
        2. culturally appropriate
        3. from both the local church and the greater Church body.
          1. Should have more song writers. Who is it that
        4. Worship isn’t an educational time... you can’t just take people to a place they’ve never been before. Don’t be cutting edge novel.
